LUBBOCK, Texas – A 31-29 first-set victory by the Bulldogs on Friday helped propel them to a 3-0 sweep of Fort Lewis College at the LCU Chap Classic.
After dropping both matches on Thursday, the win is a nice rebound heading into the tournament's final action on Saturday. SWOSU will take on Colorado-Colorado Springs (11am) and Texas-Permian Basin (5pm) tomorrow to conclude their time in Lubbock.
The opening set featured 15 ties and five lead changes, with neither team ever establishing a lead of more than four points. SWOSU trailed by that margin following a 4-0 run by the Skyhawks that made the score 19-15. The Bulldogs dug deep though and responded with a run of their own to knot things back up and went on to eventually claim the marathon opening frame.
From there, it was all Bulldogs. They controlled the next two sets to claim the quick 3-0 victory.
Lacy Mott led the offense with 22 kills on an impressive .528 hitting percentage and added eight digs. As a team, SWOSU hit .288 while holding FLC to just .128.
On defense,
Zoey Sparks controlled the net with four assisted blocks.
Maicee Morgan tallied a team high 15 digs.
