Volleyball Opens Play at LCU Chap Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas – The SWOSU volleyball team began play at the LCU Chap Classic on Thursday, dropping both matches on the day against Lubbock Christian and Adams State.

The Bulldogs will continue tournament play tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against Fort Lewis.

GAME 1 at Lubbock Christian
(23-25, 15-25, 23-25)

The Dawgs would lose in their first match of the day 3-0 to Lubbock Christian. SWOSU fell just short in two of the three sets, with a pair of close 25-23 showings.

The first set would set the scene for the match, as SWOSU lost 25-23 in a close one. LCU went up early, but SWOSU fought back. The two would trade points back and forth until eventually SWOSU fell.

The second set would be mainly multi-point runs. LCU strung together these stretches more consistently and would take it 25-15.

The final set saw SWOSU take a commanding lead early. LCU did just enough to keep itself in the set and closed out the match 25-23.

Zoey Sparks led the Dawgs with nine kills and six blocks. Lacy Mott also had nine kills and had a team high 12 digs.

GAME 2 vs Adams State
(25-20, 21-25, 26-28, 18-25)

SWOSU took the first set off Adams State in the nightcap but dropped the next three.

The Lady Dawgs started out strong. They led comfortably with a 20-12 margin and went on to win the first set of the match. The second would go to Adams State which led to the most competitive set of the game.

The third set needed more than the minimum 25 points to win. It was a back and forth set until Adams State ultimately won.

Lacy Mott led SWOSU in kills with 13 and also had 11 digs. Maicee Morgan added 11 kills and 10 digs in the contest.
