TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Two Bulldog goals in the match's final five minutes allowed
SWOSU soccer to acquire a rare tie against Northeastern State in Tahlequah on Saturday night.
The Lady Dawgs trailed 2-0 after the first 45 minutes of play. Northeastern State applied pressure out of the gate with nine of their ten total shots on goal. They would hold the advantage in every major offensive statistical category going into the locker room.
SWOSU performed much better in the second half. They more than doubled their shots from the first period and all of those were shots on goal. However, they still faced a two-goal deficit late in the game.
With things looking grim into the 87
th minute,
Brenna McGuirk would find the back of the net to put SWOSU on the board. One minute and some change were left in the game when
Ruth Vasquez would ensure the tie with her second goal in as many games this season.
McGuirk logged three shots on goal to go along with her goal. Vasquez added two shots on goal, as well as her lone goal.
Ashley Hughes gave another strong performance in the box with seven saves on ten shots faced.
The SWOSU soccer team moves to 0-1-1 on the season. They still seek their first win and will get the opportunity to get it when they head to Wichita Falls on Thursday to play Midwestern State.
