Softball Falls Late at Home vs Northwestern

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball jumped out to an early lead at home against Northwestern in a matchup between rivals but fell victim to a six-run seventh inning by the Rangers and dropped the Tuesday conference contest 13-7.

A four spot in the bottom of the first inning after sloppy Northwestern defense had SWOSU leading 4-1 early and Jordyn Wadley added onto that lead in the second with a two-RBI double.

After Northwestern got a run back in the third inning, they regained the lead in the fifth with five runs on three hits and three walks. Breanna Simmons drove in Hannah Franklin in the sixth on an RBI ground ball and the teams entered the seventh inning knotted up at 7-7.

It was in the top half of the seventh where the game got away from the Dawgs. Northwestern racked up eight hits in the inning including a grand slam and a pair of RBI singles to put the game out of reach.

Maddie Rahon finished 3-4 with two runs scored. Alisa Friesen picked up the loss in the circle and pitched 4.2 innings. Brianna Cryer made an appearance in relief.

SWOSU will look to rebound this weekend when they travel to Durant, Oklahoma to take on Southeastern in another GAC series. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 3pm.
