WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball scored in every inning but the fourth including 14 runs in a span of two innings and had 10 of their 21 hits go for extra-bases on their way to a 21-7 game one run-rule victory on Friday against Northwestern.
With a strong wind blowing out on the afternoon, the offense came ready to hit. SWOSU tallied 21 hits and score 21 runs in the game. Seven of the nine starters in the lineup collected at least two hits – including
Ramon Vingochea who finished a perfect 5-5 and
Enzo Bonventre and
Taylan Mullins-Ohm who both doubled and dingered.
The game looked to be tightening up in the fifth inning after Northwestern got within a run, trailing 7-6. The Dawgs jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three innings but was finally answered when the visiting Rangers hit two home runs in the fifth to get within a run.
SWOSU immediately answered with a six-run home half of the fifth to extend the lead back out, and stamped the game complete the following inning when they sent 15 batters to the plate and scored eight more runs.
Bryson Armstrong picked up the win by throwing 5.0 innings and striking out seven.
Chris Goldston and
Matt Hopkins both saw action out of the bullpen to close the game out.
Other home runs on the afternoon came from
Zach Baxley and
Marc Gonzales. Bonventre and Mullins-Ohm hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning.
The series concludes tomorrow at 1pm with the doubleheader portion of the series. SWOSU's seniors will be honored prior to the day's start for Senior Day.
