Nine Unanswered Runs Downs Bulldogs in Midweek

ENID, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball dropped a neutral site non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon at David Allen Memorial Ballpark, falling to Emporia State 12-4 after surrendering nine unanswered runs.

A Griffin Laren bases clearing, three RBI double in the fourth inning tied the game up at 3-3. An inning later, JC Reed doubled in a run to give SWOSU its only lead of the game.

The lead would not hold though, as the Hornets would go on to retake the lead in their half of the fifth and break the game open with five runs in the seventh and then by adding an insurance run in the eighth.

SWOSU pitching was roughed up on Tuesday, as all arms that threw allowed at least one run. Grant Ewy (L, 3-1) picked up the loss in relief. He came in for starter Ernesto Hidrogo who pitched 3.2 innings. Mac Cheney and Haden Branch also saw time on the mound.

Outside of Larsen and Reed, Marc Gonzales finished 2-for-4 at the plate but struck out twice. He now has had two hits in back-to-back games.

The loss pushes the Bulldogs to 7-12 on the season overall and 1-1 in midweek action. SWOSU will now focus on conference foe Southern Nazarene for their next weekend series. Right now, the three-game series is set to get underway Friday (March 11) but with weather looming, the schedule is subject to change.
