Baseball Cruises in Game One, Survives Game Two vs Crimson Storm

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball nearly run ruled Southern Nazarene in game one, and then used a late comeback to force extra innings and rallied to win game two, sweeping the Crimson Storm by scores of 14-9 and 10-9 on Sunday to win the series.

The Dawgs will go for a much-needed conference series sweep against SNU tomorrow in the third and final game, starting at 1pm in Weatherford.

Game One – SWOSU 14, SNU 9

The final score of this one seemed closer than the game was played. SWOSU had all 14 of their runs through the first five innings of the game and led 14-2. Six of the offense's 10 hits went for extra bases, including a pair of doubles by Cade Hamilton and a home run by JC Reed.

SNU avoided the run rule by plating four runs in the seventh inning and tried to make things interesting in the ninth inning after Chase Hamilton relieved starter Nate Poslethwait and failed to get an out – but Grant Ewy entered for Hamilton and got the Dawgs the outs they needed to wrap up the game.

Postlethwait earned the win and moves to 2-3 on the season after finishing with a line of 8.0 innings pitched and racking up and impressive 16 strikeouts. He absorbed 10 hits and allowed six runs.

Game Two – SWOSU 10, SNU 9 (8 inn.)

A six-run fourth inning by the Crimson Storm had them out in front 8-2 in the nightcap. SWOSU chipped away with two runs in their half of the fourth, fifth, and seventh and a single run in the sixth inning to force extra innings.

Trailing 8-6 in the seventh inning and down to their last out, Samuel Fortier doubled to the wall and Alex Rice kept the momentum going with a triple that plated Fortier. On the play, SNU's right fielder made an errant throw that allowed Rice to keep running from third base and score the tying run.

In the next inning, Ernesto Hidrogo (W, 2-1) held the Crimson Storm scoreless on the mound and SWOSU completed the comeback with an Enzo Bonventre walk off single with the bases loaded.
