LAWTON, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball took care of business on the road at Cameron, claiming a 12-5 win against the Aggies in midweek action. After jumping out to an early lead and then having the game tighten back up, the Bulldog offense scored six of the game's last seven runs to seal it.
The win marks a series sweep of the Aggies in non-conference play. SWOSU won the first meeting 16-6 back on March 1 in Weatherford. The team has now won three of its last four after claiming an impressive series victory over No. 16 Henderson State this past weekend.
SWOSU got three runs in the second inning which began the game's scoring thanks to a two-out, two-RBI double from Alex Rice following back-to-back walks to start the inning and an error that loaded the bases.
An inning later, Cameron walked the bases loaded and SWOSU cashed in more runs. Enzo Bonventre plated the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly, followed by a JC Reed RBI groundout that extended the lead to 5-0.
Dakota Jones' only runs allowed in his outing came from one swing in his last inning of work. The Aggies singled twice to start the fifth, and then a three-run home run to left field inched the Cameron margin closer – now trailing just 5-3.
In the sixth inning, both sides notched solo shot homers with SWOSU's coming from the bat of Bonventre. It marked the third home run he has had in two games against Cameron this season.
A two-run eighth and four-run ninth solidified the victory.
The offense tallied 12 hits in the game, compared to eight from Cameron. Rice finished 3-for-4 at the plate, Cade Hamilton and Ramon Vingochea each had two hits apiece.
Jones (W, 1-1) pitched 5.0 innings and picked up the win. Four arms saw action out of the bullpen, each throwing one inning.
SWOSU remains away from Weatherford this weekend with a weekend trip to Ada, Oklahoma to faceoff against East Central. Game one is set for 2pm on Friday, with the doubleheader portion of the series to get underway at 1pm on Saturday.
