Bonventre Homers Three Times; SWOSU Moves Past ECU in Game One

ADA, Okla. – Enzo Bonventre finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three home runs and eight RBIs, as SWOSU Baseball defeated East Central 11-4 on Friday afternoon. After trailing 4-1 early, the offense woke up and scored 10 unanswered runs to grab the lead and hold it.

The series with ECU concludes tomorrow with a doubleheader set to begin at 1pm in Ada.

Griffin Larsen got the scoring going in the second inning with an RBI single that gave SWOSU an early 1-0 lead. ECU answered in the bottom half with an RBI single and double, back-to-back with two outs, that put them ahead 4-1.

A leadoff double by Ramon Vingochea in the fifth got the offense moving again. A balk moved him over and Cade Hamilton drove him in with a sacrifice fly. Enzo Bonventre then homered to left field right after to make the score 4-3.

Bonventre put the Dawgs ahead with his second home run of the game – a three-run shot to left field in the seventh inning.

An inning later, with the bases loaded and two outs, he delivered a grand slam to put the game out of reach. Alex Rice singled, followed by walks from Vingochea and Cade Hamilton before Bonventre brought them all in with one swing.

SWOSU added one more run in the ninth for good measure.

Bryson Armstrong got the start on the mound and threw 5.0 innings and scattered seven hits, while striking out one. Dakota Jones, Rafael Perez-Guzman, and Grant Ewy all pitched in relief, and none allowed a run. Jones earned the win via decision.

Outside of Bonventre, Vingochea also finished 3-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Rice and Hamilton both had two hits apiece. The offense racked up 14 hits, compared to eight from ECU.
