Reddies Edge SWOSU Twice in Low Scoring Doubleheader

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball dropped both ends of their defensive doubleheader against Henderson State on Friday in a pair of low scoring contests, 4-1 and 3-2.

The series will conclude tomorrow at 11am in game three where the Dawgs will look to avoid the series sweep and salvage the weekend.

GAME ONE – HSU 4, SWOSU 1

The offense scored the first run of the game in the first inning from an error following a leadoff walk by Jewell Lee. They would not score again the rest of the way and only added two hits.

Both hits came off the bat of Jordan Collins.

SWOSU's lead was quickly equalized after the Reddies answered in the bottom half of the first with an unearned run of their own. They took the lead in the fifth off a wild pitch and added a pair of sixth-inning insurance runs from an error and a hit by pitch.

Alisa Friesen pitched the entire way and scattered six hits and allowed four runs (two earned) while striking out five and only walking one.

GAME TWO – HSU 3, SWOSU 2

After scoring in the first inning of game one, SWOSU's next runs did not cross until the final inning of the second game. The Dawgs trailed 3-0 heading into the seventh inning and ended up plating two before they ran out of outs.

With both the game tying and go-ahead runners on base, SWOSU could not collect the additional hit they needed to keep the game going.

Collins added another hit in game two, while Jewell Lee produced the lone extra-base hit.

Brianna Cryer matched Friesen's performance with a complete game of her own. She struck out four and absorbed seven hits. All runs scored were earned.
