WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Jewell Lee tripled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning of game two against Ouachita and
Jordyn Wadley extended the lead with a three-run home run just four batters later, as SWOSU Softball went on to split with the Tigers on Friday's opening slate of conference action.
The Bulldogs will now play for the series victory tomorrow at 11am in the final game of the series.
Game One – Ouachita 11, SWOSU 6
A seven-run second inning from the Tigers caused SWOSU to play from a large deficit from the early going.
Alisa Friesen came on in relief in the circle and settled Ouachita's offense down, but the damage had already been done.
Caitlin Delaney finished 3-4 and accounted for three of the seven total hits the offense produced in the series opener.
Trailing 10-1, the Dawgs scored five of the game's last six runs but chased far too great of a margin to avoid the loss.
Game Two – SWOSU 9, Ouachita 4
The second game of the day's twinbill had a much different feel and was a much closer game.
RBI singles from
Hannah Franklin,
Jewell Lee, and
Maddie Rahon had SWOSU leading 3-2 after two innings. After Ouachita tacked on a run in each of the next two innings, the Dawgs grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth with a barrage of offense including two clutch extra-base hits.
Lee tripled in what ended up being the game winning runs when she lifted a ball to right field and the defender charged in too hard and allowed the ball to bounce past her to the wall. With a full steam of momentum, Lee easily made it to third while the two runners on base circled all the way home.
Now 5-4 Dawgs,
Maddie Rahon added an insurance run with two outs on an RBI single before
Jordyn Wadley stamped the game complete with a no-doubt blast to right center for three more insurance runs.
Wadley finished 2-4, alongside Franklin and Rahon who each also added two hits apiece. Lee led the way with a 3-4 game, finishing with two runs scored and three RBI.
Brianna Cryer and
Alisa Friesen split time in the circle, but Friesen picked up the win by finishing the final 3.1 innings out in relief and being a part of the lead change.
