DURANT, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball turned up the heat on defense against Southeastern and it paid off, as the Lady Dawgs won 64-50 for their fourth consecutive victory.
The tone for the game was set from the early going. The Lady Dawgs held SE to nine points in the first quarter, 21 total in the half, which translated to just 31.5% shooting.
Though SWOSU started slow in the first quarter by shooting just 27% themselves, they still grew a 17-9 lead while they began to heat up.
Through the second and third quarters, the Lady Dawgs shot 50% while the scoring margin continued to extend. In the third quarter, SWOSU got the breathing room they needed by outscoring the Savage Storm by 10 points.
SWOSU saw its biggest lead of the night midway through the fourth quarter with a 57-37 mark but was slightly outscored by the end of the quarter. That did not matter however, as the damage had already been done.
On the boards, SWOSU left their mark by outrebounding Southeastern 47-33 on the night including 18-6 on offensive rebounds. They also forced SE into 18 turnovers.
Lauren Ramey led all scorers with 16 points and played all 40 minutes in the contest. Bethany Franks and Shamica Smith combined to finish with 20 points and 13 rebounds from the center position. Makyra Tramble again flirted with a triple-double, finishing one assist shy of the milestone. Her line ended with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. She also did not check out of the ball game.
The road trip continues for SWOSU, who played in Shawnee last Saturday and now Durant on Monday. They will be in Arkadelphia, Arkansas this upcoming Thursday and Saturday to take on Henderson State and Ouachita.
