PARIS, Texas – Monday's series finale between SWOSU and Southern Arkansas did not feature much scoring, but it was the Muleriders who were able to edge out the Dawgs with a 2-1 victory to close out the weekend.
Dani Carmo led the seventh inning off with a double that had the Dawgs in good shape late, but the offense struck out, grounded out, and flied out to end the game and stranded Carmo and the game-tying run on third base.
Alisa Friesen allowed two runs and pitched a complete game, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs mustered just four hits and one run on offense.
Though the SWOSU bats went cold, so did the Muleriders.
Friesen absorbed six hits in the game and walked two but gave SWOSU a strong start in the circle and kept them in the ball game and within striking distance of SAU.
An RBI single in the third inning put the Muleriders on top but was answered in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a Jordyn Wadley solo home run – her first of the season.
Tied 1-1, SAU took the lead for good on a sacrifice fly in their half of the fifth inning and SWOSU would fail to answer the rest of the way.
After nearly an entire month away from Weatherford to start the season, SWOSU finally will play their home opener when they host Oklahoma Baptist this weekend March 4-5.
