Bulldog Offense Kept At Bay in Series Opener

PARIS, Texas – SWOSU Softball dropped a pair of Great American Conference games against Southern Arkansas on Sunday by scores of 6-0 and 4-1.

The Bulldogs return to the field tomorrow at noon to close out the series with SAU.

GAME ONE
SAU 6, SWOSU 0

The Bulldogs managed just two hits in the first game of the day, and four total base runners after also drawing a pair of walks. Breanna Simmons doubled in the opening inning but was unable to get all the way around to score.

SAU scored single runs in the third and fifth innings but did the most damage with a four-run fourth. They tallied 10 hits in the game – five of those for extra bases including two home runs and two triples.

Brianna Cryer (L, 1-3) pitched 4.0 innings and allowed all six of the runs in the game. Kaylee Barkley threw the final two innings in relief.

GAME TWO
SAU 4, SWOSU 1

SWOSU led 1-0 midway through the fifth inning thanks to a Simmons RBI single. SAU scored all their runs in one go to grab the lead in their half of the fifth.

A bases loaded double plated three runs, following by another RBI single that capped off the Mulerider scoring inning.

Now trailing 4-1, SWOSU was unable to produce further scoring offense to make a comeback.

Simmons finished 2-for-3 in the game and 3-for-5 on the day in the batter's box.

Alisa Friesen (L, 0-3) threw a complete game in the circle. Outside of the fifth inning, she was able to keep SAU at bay for most of the day. She limited the Muleriders to just five hits and struck out three.
