ADA, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball erased a 14-point fourth quarter deficit against East Central to force overtime and went on to escape Ada with a 69-64 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs leaned on their defense in the fourth quarter to facilitate the comeback. SWOSU held ECU scoreless for nearly eight minutes in the final quarter to pull off a 14-0 run over the last 6:05 of game time that forced overtime.
Makyra Tramble, who was slow to get going through three quarters, woke up offensively by scoring eight of her 15 points during the comeback run, paired with the Gore sisters and Layni Zinn who all chipped in two points apiece.
It wasn't the cleanest game either team has played this season. The two sides combined to turn the ball over 44 times – 20 by SWOSU compared to 24 from ECU.
Cold shooting quarters in the first and third were the culprit of the deficit SWOSU found themselves in. The Dawgs shot 21% in the first and 23% in the third and got outscored 36-22 during those quarters.
For the game, SWOSU ended at 36% (21-of-58) shooting overall while ECU shot 34% (24-of-70). Both teams weren't great from beyond the arc, but the Lady Dawgs could not get anything from the three ball Friday after finishing just 2-for-18 from deep.
Karly Gore and Lauren Ramey aided Tramble in scoring, as they combined to finish with 27 points and 12 rebounds between the pair. Layni Zinn added eight points off the bench.
The GAC Champion and No. 19-ranked Lady Dawgs will close out the regular season tomorrow (Saturday) against SNU at 1pm.
