Bulldogs Split Day Two of Edmond Regional Festival

EDMOND, Okla. – SWOSU Softball got its first win of the 2022 season with a 9-7 victory over Missouri Southern in their second game of the day.

The Dawgs dropped the first game 11-1 to start the day against Midwestern State in five innings.

They move to 1-3 on the season and will face Central Oklahoma tomorrow at 5:15pm to conclude their time at the Edmond Regional Festival.

GAME 1
Midwestern State 11, SWOSU 1 (5 inn.)

Midwestern State scored in each of the first four innings and built an 11-0 lead before SWOSU could answer with a lone run of their own in the bottom of the fourth.

The lone Bulldog run came off of a fielding error. Maddie Rahon scored Breanna Simmons from third base after an error from the MSU shortstop. Simmons also reached via an error to lead the inning off.

Alisa Friesen (L, 0-1) started in the circle but was only able to last one inning before she was chased out. Kaylee Barkley relieved her and threw the remaining four innings.

GAME 2
SWOSU 9, Missouri Southern 7

A seven-run first inning for the Bulldogs after falling behind 3-0 was the recipe for the win in game two.

It was not a clean inning from MSSU, but SWOSU certainly took advantage with timely hits and making them pay when errors were committed.

After MSSU chipped away at the deficit in the fourth inning to get within two runs at 7-5, Breanna Simmons pushed the margin back out with RBI singles in the bottom half of the fourth inning and the sixth inning.

Brianna Cryer (W, 1-1) picked up the win after throwing 4.0 innings. Barkley earned the save after pitching effectively for 3.0 innings of work to maintain the lead.
