Softball Opens Season with Tough Doubleheader

EDMOND, Okla. – SWOSU Softball dropped both games of their season opening doubleheader against two teams with a combined record of 11-1 entering Friday.

The Dawgs lost to an unbeaten Cameron team 11-4 and then to Rogers State 3-0.

SWOSU will return to action with another doubleheader tomorrow in Edmond. They will play at 10:30 a.m. against Midwestern State and then turn right back around at 12:45 p.m. and will play Missouri Southern State.

Game 1
Cameron 11, SWOSU 4

SWOSU went toe to toe with Cameron through five innings. Midway through the fifth inning, the score was tied 4-4. But the Aggies broke the game open with a seven-run inning that went unanswered by the Bulldogs the rest of the way.

SWOSU scored their first run of the season when Skye Tilley drove in Maddie Rahon from third base.

Cameron scored a run in the bottom of the second inning, but SWOSU fired right back in the top of the third when they scored two runs. Hannah Franklin hit an RBI triple into left field followed by an Aleah Bozarth RBI double into left field.

Cameron responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. The Bulldogs would get one more run in the top of the fifth with a Rahon RBI single. Bad news for SWOSU as Cameron scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back, handing SWOSU an 11-4 loss to begin the regular season.

Rahon got on base every at bat, finishing 3-for-3 and recorded an RBI.

Alisa Friesen pitched 4.0 innings in the circle, followed by Kaylee Barkley who picked up the loss.

Game 2
Rogers State 3, SWOSU 0

In a more defensive minded second game, all Rogers State needed was a few runs to get the job done against the Bulldogs and did exactly that.

SWOSU did record three hits, but no runs and two errors. Rogers State scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bulldogs did record their two errors in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it did not cost them any runs. Breanna Simmons recorded two hits and Jewell Lee added one.

Brianna Cryer (0-1) pitched the entire game. She recorded three strikeouts and allowed four hits and three runs.
