WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU women's basketball captured their first win of the season over East Central on Saturday, 86-71.
This victory is the most complete game the Lady Bulldogs have put together this year. They came out of the gates hot, taking a 15-5 lead late in the first quarter. SWOSU extended this lead even further in the second quarter. Heading into halftime, they held a 46-34 advantage.
ECU fought in the second half and brought the game within five points multiple times, yet could not take the lead. In fact, the Lady Dawgs led from the first bucket to the final buzzer. With 6:26 left in the 4
th quarter, ECU chipped the lead down to five points once again and looked primed to make it a close game till the end.
SWOSU would outscore ECU 18-8 over the final six minutes of the game to hold off the ECU comeback attempt. The run was kickstarted by a
Macy Gore pull-up three pointer at the end of the shot clock.
SWOSU shot 57% from the field and 48% from three, while holding ECU to 42% from the field and 33% from three. The Lady Bulldogs outrebounded the Tigers 35-26 as well. 86 points scored and both of the shooting percentages are season highs for SWOSU.
Averi Zinn led the way with a career high 28 points and seven assists on an efficient 10-16 from the field.
Macy Gore had a season high 20 points on 7-11 from the field and 5-9 from behind the arc.
Shamica Smith had a double double, with 10 points and 10 boards off of the bench.
SWOSU gets a tally in the win column, improving to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in GAC play. They will take a break from conference play for their next contest. Cameron comes to Weatherford for a midweek nonconference game on December 15 at 5:30 PM.
