CANYON, Texas – The SWOSU women's basketball team traveled to West Texas A&M for a non-conference road trip against the nationally ranked Lady Buffs. SWOSU took the loss, 79-51.
SWOSU came out playing well. They trailed by only five after the first quarter and seven at halftime, against the No. 6 team in the nation in their gym. They stayed in the game by forcing 11 WTAM turnovers in the first half, which led to 12 points off turnovers for the Lady Dawgs.
Things got away from them in the second half though. SWOSU went cold when they needed it most, going 6-20 and 3-16 in the later quarters. Those shooting numbers added up to 25% shooting in the second half.
SWOSU was outshot 30% (21-71) to WTAM's 40% (31-77). They were out rebounded 69-33 and gave up 23 offensive rebounds to the Lady Buffs.
Averi Zinn led the team with 17 points in 37 minutes of play, with eight of those points coming in the first quarter.
Layni Zinn finished behind her sister with seven points.
Morgan Smith,
Shamica Smith, and
Macy Gore all added six points apiece.
The Lady Bulldogs will get the rest of the weekend off to prepare for another nationally ranked opponent. Lubbock Christian will be coming to the Pioneer Cellular Event Center on Monday, November 21 for a 5:30 contest against SWOSU.
