RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU Football has added a pair of Great American Conference Players of the Week courtesy of Ashton Hamby and Elijah Reed's strong performances last Saturday. It is the final weekly recognition from the conference for the 2022 season.
For Hamby, it is his second straight week earning conference honors. He was named the Special Teams Player of the Week on November 7 and is now the Defensive Player of the Week one game later. Against Northwestern in the season finale, he intercepted a pass, recovered a fumble, and added seven tackles to his stat sheet. Both turnovers came in the second half. He finishes the season with a team leading three INTs.
Reed recovered a blocked punt by Logan Engle for a 30-yard scoop n' score touchdown in the first quarter. At the time, it put the Dawgs out ahead 13-0. It is the second straight week SWOSU special teams scored off a blocked punt.
SWOSU finishes the season with a league-leading eight players of the week, edging two teams who finished with seven. (Ouachita, Henderson State)
