Dawgs Secure Regular Season GAC Championship

SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU soccer concluded their regular season in Shawnee on Saturday night in a matchup against Oklahoma Baptist. They came away victorious, 2-0.

This win finishes off a historic year for the SWOSU soccer program and earns them the regular season GAC Championship. Not only do they seal the regular season crown with the win, they also claim the #1 seed in the GAC tournament and will be the host site of the tournament.

This is the second straight GAC regular season championship for SWOSU and the sixth in program history. SWOSU ended with a record of 7-4-7 and 7-0-5 in the GAC. This is the second time in school history that the Dawgs have went through conference play undefeated (2012).

It would be unfitting if anyone but Alimata Rabo put the finishing touch on her record-breaking year. She scored the only two goals in the game (22', 31'). After a slow start during nonconference play, she wound up scoring 13 goals during the regular season, all in conference play. These two were just icing on the cake for her SWOSU career goals scored and career points scored records.

Laura Jorgensen and Ruth Vasquez were the shot leaders for SWOSU with five total shots each. Vasquez had three on goal and Jorgensen had one on goal. Sola Tsuruta added two shots as well. Goalie Ashley Hughes was perfect in the box again, claiming six saves and adding another shutout to the books for her 2022 campaign.

The Dawgs have a few days to celebrate their regular season crown before preparing to host the lower three seeds in the upcoming GAC conference tournament. The two semi-finals will be held on Thursday, November 3 at the SWOSU Athletic Complex with kickoff times to be determined later this week.
