WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In the second GAC Tournament semifinal game of the day, SWOSU defeated NWOSU 1-0. This win puts SWOSU into the GAC Championship on Saturday.
Launa Torrez claimed the only goal scored in the match with a 37' goal to take the lead. It was a beautiful display of offensive passing, with the ball bouncing from one player to the next, until it landed to the feet of Torrez in the box.
Sola Tsuruta and
Kelsey Smith were on the record for the assists.
The score on the scoreboard at the end of the game did not tell the whole story in this semifinal matchup between rivals. SWOSU dominated the possession for a majority of the match. The Dawgs spent almost a full half of the game in possession of the ball on their half of the field.
SWOSU had 22 shots to NWOSU's two. SWOSU totaled 10 shots on goal while the Rangers did not see a single shot on goal. NWOSU didn't attempt a shot in the first 45 minutes of play at all. The game was a true testament to the league best defense that has carried the Bulldogs all season long.
SWOSU moves onto the GAC Championship game after the victory to take on Oklahoma Baptist after their last second win over Ouachita in the first semifinal of the day. This will mark the fifth straight season (excluding the Covid spring season) in which SWOSU and Oklahoma Baptist will meet in the GAC Tournament Championship game. The game kicks off at 11 am on Saturday, November 5 at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
