Soccer Calms Crimson Storm

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer defeated Southern Nazarene 3-1 in the final regular season match set to be played in Weatherford this season.

SWOSU improves to 6-0-5 in league play and inches closer to securing the top seed for the upcoming GAC Tournament.

Alimata Rabo, the GAC's leading goal scorer, notched the match's first goal in the sixth minute and Laura Jorgensen followed that up with her first score of the season three minutes later.

SWOSU remained on the attack nearly all half on the SNU side of the field and outshot the Crimson Storm 12-2 through the first 45 minutes.

After the intermission, the Crimson Storm got a goal back early in the second half to cut the deficit, but Kelsey Smith gave the Bulldogs more breathing room just five minutes of game time later when she scored to extend the margin back out to 3-1 in the 51st minute.

Sola Tsuruta got in on the trend of first-time scorers with a goal in the 65th in the minute. Tsuruta, Smith, and Jorgensen all netted their first goals of the season in the match.

The final shot count favored SWOSU, 26-6. The Dawgs put 13 of those on goal.

Though the win concludes the regular season home schedule for the Dawgs, that does not necessarily mean the SWOSU Athletic Complex has seen the last action of the year. The win moves the Bulldogs one step closer to securing the number-one seed for the Great American Conference Tournament next week. The number one seed allows you the right to host the postseason tournament, set to be played November 3-5.

The Bulldogs can secure the top-seed and the regular season conference championship against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, or with other scenarios based on results from around the league.
