RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU Soccer claimed all three possible Great American Conference Player of the Week Awards following a successful pair of matches last Thursday and Saturday.
Alimata Rabo (offense) and Julie Andersen (defense) both picked up their first weekly conference recognition of the season, while Ashley Hughes (goalkeeper) was awarded her position's distinction for the second time.
The Bulldogs defeated Oklahoma Baptist 6-0 and Southern Nazarene 2-1 last week.
Rabo netted five goals in two games for the SWOSU attack, including four against OBU in a record-setting performance. She became SWOSU's all-timing leading scorer when she netted her 79th career goal in the second half of that match. Rabo also had her hand in both goals in a 2-1 victory over SNU. She scored a goal in the 4th minute and assisted on the game winner in the 86th minute.
Andersen helped anchor a SWOSU defense that collected its fifth straight conference shutout and had SNU scoreless through the 75th minute before the streak was snapped. She scored the game-winning goal 10 minutes later – her first of the season.
Hughes held OBU scoreless for 80 minutes before exiting the game with a 6-0 lead. She had her scoreless streak ended against SNU but earned four saves and kept the Crimson Storm offense limited to just the one score. Hughes ended the week with seven total saves.
SWOSU (4-4-4, 4-0-2 GAC) plays Northwestern on the road on Tuesday before returning home on Thursday to host East Central.
