WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In the first home game of the new semester, SWOSU Women's Basketball got back in the win column with a dominant 95-58 victory over Southern Arkansas on Thursday.
SWOSU had lost two of their last three coming into the night, after their 13-game win streak had been previously snapped.
The Dawgs continue to sit atop the Great American Conference standings and improve to 16-4 overall and 10-2 in the league.
The blue and silver shot nearly 49% on Thursday, while holding the Muleriders to just 28% overall. That stat line falls in line with the story of the game. The Lady Dawgs continually had small scoring spurts and SAU continually could not answer back. As a result, the lead grew quarter after quarter.
SWOSU used an early 9-0 run in the first quarter to set the tone, which ended up being the largest unanswered stretch in the contest. By halftime, the lead had grown to 50-31.
Out of the halftime locker room, the Lady Dawgs used their highest scoring output of the night to grow their lead even further by outscoring SAU 29-18 in the third quarter. Then, to close things out, outscored SAU 16-9 with help from their bench.
Four separate players notched double-digit scoring, led by
Lauren Ramey who finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Makyra Tramble collected her third double-double of the season with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.
Macy Gore notched 16 points and tied Gore in assists.
Shamica Smith finished with a season best eight-point performance playing the most minutes off of the bench of any Bulldog.
JaMaya Johnson (5),
Trinity Johnson (5), and
Avery Walker-Henry (2) also made appearances in the box score for scoring.
The win completes a regular-season sweep of Southern Arkansas with two wins by final scores of 85-72 and now 95-58.
SWOSU returns to action in Weatherford on Saturday against Arkansas Monticello, set for a typical 1pm tipoff.
