RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – A hot hand all game from beyond the arc, a Lauren Ramey and Morgan Smith career high in scoring, and an explosive third quarter helped SWOSU cruise to a 105-71 victory over Arkansas Tech on Thursday.
The win gets the Lady Bulldogs back in the win column and back on track after their 13-game win streak was snapped last week.
The three ball was working for SWOSU all night, as they knocked down 20 treys out of 34 attempts (59%) – the most three-point makes the Lady Dawgs have had all season. Furthermore, 20 made three-point shots also ties for second on SWOSU's all-time list as a division II school, just one behind the record set back in 2014 against Southeastern.
It was just a three-point game at halftime, with SWOSU leading Tech 38-35 through the first 20 minutes. That was before a third quarter that saw the Lady Dawgs outscore the Golden Suns 37-18 to build their large margin. The third quarter featured many runs, but none better than a 13-0 spurt midway through.
From there, it was cruise control, but even so, SWOSU added another 30-point quarter to close things out and grow the lead further.
As a team, SWOSU finished a season best 55% from the field overall, compared to Tech at 45%. The Lady Dawgs dominated on the boards as well, outrebounding the opposition 42-26.
Makyra Tramble led the way with 24 points and a team best six three-pointers. Ramey followed with 23 points and four treys. Morgan Smith tallied 20 with five treys. Macy and Karly Gore combined for 23 points, and Bethany Franks had eight points and seven rebounds.
Macy Gore also tied her career high with nine assists.
SWOSU moved to 15-3 on the year and 9-1 in conference play. They will battle Harding on the road Saturday at 1 pm, before returning home next week.
