WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball only needed three sets on Tuesday night to dismantle Southeastern Oklahoma State and extend their current winning streak to six games.
Â
Senior outside hitter
Chezney Nielsen was vicious on the attack from start to finish, leading all players with eleven kills. She had five in the second set alone. She was also very good defensively, contributing eight digs and 22 receptions.
Â
Setter
Allie Hoang and her arsenal of attackers did a great job of spreading the kills around tonight, keeping Southeastern guessing on where the attacks would come from. Four different Bulldogs racked up four kills in a singular set on the night. Â
Â
The Dawgs wasted no time bringing the intensity in this one. Middle blocker and reigning Great American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Markenzie Benoit and the SWOSU front lines were very active at the net in the first set and made it difficult for the Savage Storm to get a clean hit through. A couple of service errors by Southeastern and efficient attacks from the Bulldogs made for a quick first.
Â
The second set was defined by spikes and service. Bulldog servers troubled the Southeastern Oklahoma State defenders throughout the set, forcing five reception errors highlighted by Sophia Desantiago's back to back aces. Points that weren't earned via service likely came at the hands of
Samantha Kuzma and
Chezney Nielsen who had four and five kills respectively in the second frame.
Â
Â
Southeastern made it more difficult on the Dawgs in the third set, and the Savage Storm got out to a 19-14 lead. But five straight points, including back to back service aces from Kuzma, tied it back up at 19-19 and it was all Bulldogs from then on.
Â
Freshman
Lacy Mott came into the game for the first time in the third set and made an instant impact. She was able to tally two kills at a crucial time for her team and finished with a .400 attacking percentage.
Â
"A good hard-fought win tonight. We beat a really good team, and we had to fight back there in the third to do it," said Head Coach
Josh Collins. "I like that we showed some heart. Proud of them. Proud of the win and we are ready to move on to the next one."
Â
SWOSU moves to 6-4 overall and remains an undefeated 2-0 in conference play. They go on the road to play East Central on Friday night in Ada, Okla.
