DURANT, Okla. – SWOSU Football (0-2) travels to Durant on Saturday to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State (2-0) on a mission to snag their first win of the season.
Â
A 27-42 defeat away at Southern Arkansas saw the Bulldogs fall to 0-2 so far on the season. A hyper-competitive game for three quarters, the Muleriders pulled away in the fourth to take the victory.
Â
Finding themselves right in the middle of a fire fight, the Bulldog offense rose to the occasion. The 505 total yards of offense is the most in a single game for the Bulldogs since 2018. Sophomore quarterback
Tanner Griffin posted career highs in both passing yards and passing touchdowns with 437 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Â
When your quarterback is slinging it, that usually means your wide receivers get to eat as well.
Torin Justice, after a slower week one, went for 83 yards on six catches with a touchdown on the day while
Justin Bailey continued his hot start going for 104 yards and a touchdown. Running back
Nate Davis got involved as well in the air raid as well with a 55-yard touchdown catch of his own. Head Coach
Chet Pobolish will hope his men can replicate that kind of production going forward.
Â
Pobolish's team took a step forward in their development, but will need to continue to take those steps to get where they want to be. Minimizing turnovers and improving their run defense will undoubtedly be keys on Saturday. The Dawgs have lost the turnover battles and have given up 150+ rushing yards in both of their games thus far this season.
Â
The Bulldogs will take on a Southeastern Oklahoma State team brimming with confidence after taking down national ranked Harding last week. The Savage Storm are 2-0 thus far this season behind solid play from quarterback Daulton Hatley who is averaging 301 yards per game through the air through two games. One of Hatley's favorite targets is Junior wide receiver Braxton Kincade who has gone for 180 yards receiving this season, but also threw for a touchdown pass in their last game.
Â
The last time these two teams met it resulted in a 35-17 win for the Bulldogs in Durant. SWOSU pitched a shutout in the first half and then forced six turnovers in the second half alone to earn a resounding victory. The two teams have split the last four meetings.
Â
Kickoff will at 6:00 pm Saturday night in Durant. As always, Wright Wradio will stream the game live on kwey.com.
