SWOSU Baseball Drops Rivalry Series

ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball was on the short end of a three-game series at Northwestern Oklahoma State over the weekend, falling in a trio of high-scoring games in Alva.

Despite the result of the series, SWOSU has clinched their spot in the Great American Conference tournament due to other outcomes throughout the conference. The Bulldogs are now seventh in the league standings with one series remaining and they'll conclude the regular season next weekend in Weatherford against Arkansas-Monticello.

The first game of the series was high-scoring and went to extra innings tied at 11-11 after SWOSU scored nine runs between the fifth and eighth innings to overcome an 8-2 deficit early in the game. During the comeback, the Bulldogs got home runs from Ryan Dos Santos and Alex Bedard, who finished 3-for-4 in the game. SWOSU was held without a hit in the extra innings and Northwestern loaded the bases in the 11th and 12th innings before scoring the game-winning run on a hit batter with two outs and the bases loaded in the 12th.

The second game was controlled by the Rangers, who scored the final nine runs to pull away for a 12-2 run-rule victory in seven innings. SWOSU got six hits in the game, with their lone scoring coming on a two-run home run by Miguel Soto in the top of the third.

Each team homered seven times in the series finale and SWOSU led 11-6 before Northwestern scored eight runs in the fourth before adding six in the sixth to pull ahead and take the game 20-14. Zach Baxley homered twice in the contest while Bedard, Soto, Keyshaun Smith, Jason Begin and Taylan Mullins-Ohm also went yard.
