WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Baseball team returned home to the Athletic Complex this weekend for a three-game set against Arkansas-Monticello that concluded regular season play for both teams. SWOSU won the opener 12-10, but UAM won the next two games to take the series 2-1.
SWOSU concludes the regular season with a 21-17 overall record and a mark of 17-16 in conference play. The Bulldogs will now wait until the conclusion of all Great American Conference action to learn their postseason fate, which will begin next Friday night.
SWOSU 12, UAM 10
The Bulldogs trailed 6-0 before they ever came to bat in the opener, but they erased the deficit by the end of the third inning and added five more runs in the final three frames to hold off the Weevils 12-10.
Drew White was 4-for-5 with three RBI and
Alex Bedard went 3-for-5 with a home run, four runs scored and two RBI in the contest.
Taylan Mullins-Ohm also went yard and had two hits along with
Keyshaun Smith.
Nate Postlethwait got the start but was replaced by
Dakota Jones (4-1) before getting out of the first inning. Jones went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and earned the win, with
Ryan Hildner tossing the final three innings to pick up his third save of the year.
UAM 6, SWOSU 5 (8 inn.)
SWOSU seemed poised to sweep the doubleheader until UAM hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to force extras, where they won it with an RBI single in the eighth. SWOSU scored all five of their runs in the first and third innings, taking a 5-1 lead, which UAM chipped away at with back-to-back homers in the fourth and the game-tying shot in the seventh.
Noah Chapin started and pitched 3.1 innings before giving way to
Chase Hamilton.
Haden Branch (1-3) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over 3.0 innings of work.
UAM 19, SWOSU 14
A seven-run fifth inning put SWOSU up 14-10 and the Dawgs had UAM down to their final out in the ninth before a three-run home run gave the Weevils the lead as part of an eight-run inning. SWOSU got a stellar 3-or-5 performance from
Keyshaun Smith, who hit home runs in each of his first three at-bats and finished with six RBI in the game.
Drew White was 2-for-5 with three RBI while
Tyler Benge and
Daniel Davila added two hits apiece.
Five different players saw action on the hill, with
Vance Ferraro starting and throwing 3.0 innings and
Grant Ewy going the longest with 4.0 innings of action.
Chase Hamilton (0-3) took the loss after allowing six runs on five hits in the ninth before Branch came in to record the final out.
