Bulldogs Sweep Northwestern, Advance to GAC Semifinals

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – For the fifth time in the past decade, the SWOSU Volleyball team is headed to the Great American Conference Tournament Semifinals following a 3-0 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
 
SWOSU controlled the match from start-to-finish, dominating the first set 25-10 and not looking back, taking the second 25-17 before closing things out 25-19 in the third. The Bulldogs led in every statistical category, including kills (43-26), aces (3-1), blocks (7-4), digs (56-42) and assists (56-42).
 
Emma Cohalla led the Bulldogs with 11 kills while hitting .500 for the night with just one hitting error. Lacy Mott and Taryn Galt added 10 kills apiece with a combined four attack errors, leading the Bulldogs to a .259 hitting percentage for the night, which included 43 kills and just 15 errors.
 
Defensively, SWOSU had seven blocks and limited Northwestern to an attack clip of .047 with 26 kills and 21 errors. Chezney Nielsen led the Bulldogs with 13 digs while Samantha Kuzma had a team-high four blocks. Allie Hoang contributed in all facets with 32 assists, nine digs and two blocks.
 
"I thought we played with great energy tonight and did a lot of good things, both offensively and defensively, that can be attributed to the way we practiced this week," SWOSU Head Coach Josh Collins said. "This group is not satisfied, they're hungry to continue on and we look forward to competing as a family this weekend."
 
With the victory, SWOSU improves to 7-5 in the spring season and they will now head to Searcy, Ark., for the remainder of the GAC Tournament, which begins with SWOSU facing Harding on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
