RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The SWOSU Softball team competed hard with Arkansas Tech on Monday but dropped a close 2-1 contest in the series finale.
Arkansas Tech swept the Bulldogs this weekend, but Monday's contest was the closest game. SWOSU falls to 9-20 on the season and falls to 9-15 in GAC play. SWOSU returns to the diamond on Friday at 2 pm for a doubleheader against Harding.
Like the first two games, SWOSU got on the board first when
Jordyn Wadley hit a single into center field and
Jewell Lee scored from third base, giving SWOSU a 1-0 advantage in the first inning. Arkansas Tech scored two runs in the bottom of the second, making it 2-1 going into the top of the third.
The game was quiet the rest of the way through. SWOSU trailed by a run going into the top of the seventh. SWOSU went three up, three down in the top of the seventh, and Arkansas Tech won the game 2-1 to complete the series sweep.
Lee scored the one run for SWOSU while going 1-for-4 at the plate. Wadley had a base hit and an RBI, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Hannah Franklin and
Tara Hibbler each went 1-for-3 at the plate as well.
Miranda Grover (5-11) pitched a complete game, where she recorded two strikeouts while allowing two runs on six hits.
