WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Softball team played at home for the first time in 2021 and had a memorable afternoon on Tuesday by sweeping the rival Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State in a doubleheader played at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
The Bulldogs, now 2-6 on the year and 2-3 in Great American Conference play, return to action this weekend with a conference series against Southern Nazarene.
Game 1: SWOSU 8, Northwestern 7
After Northwestern scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-6 lead, the Bulldogs responded with two runs in the bottom half to secure a walk-off victory.
Hannah Franklin led off the bottom half of the inning with a pinch-hit home run to tie the game before
Jewell Lee triple and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Lee scored three runs in the game while
Dani Carmo and
Keanni Barron had two hits apiece to lead the SWOSU offense. Carmo and
Jordyn Wadley hit doubles for the Dawgs before Franklin and Lee recorded the other two extra-base hits of the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Miranda Grover (1-3) got the win in the circle after pitching a complete game while striking out one batter and walking two.
Game 2: SWOSU 9, Northwestern 3
The Bulldogs maintained their momentum from the first game by scoring twice in the first inning, then added four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth for a runaway victory to sweep the doubleheader. Lee and
Kenedi Morelock had three hits apiece, with Lee hitting her first home run of the year to account for three of her four RBI in the game.
Franklin continued her strong day at the plate with a two-run home run in the first inning, one of two hits for her in the game, and
Breanna Simmons also had two hits for the Dawgs.
Alisa Friesen (1-4) tossed a complete game and allowed three runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and four walks to her credit.
