Bulldogs Rally Past Northwestern on Senior Night

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Behind a career night from senior Emma Cohalla, the SWOSU Volleyball team completed a season sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State with a five-set victory on Wednesday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

SWOSU has three seniors on the roster, but Cohalla is the lone one who played her final regular season home game as a Bulldog on Wednesday night. She went out in style, setting new career highs in kills (19), digs (10) and blocks (7) and she closed out the match with a kill at match point, finishing off a 15-11 win in the set.

SWOSU won the first set 25-23 and closed the set on a 5-0 run. However, SWOSU lost the second set 25-19 and fell behind 2-1 after Northwestern won the third set 29-27 to take a 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs bounced back and won the fourth set 25-18, sending the match to a fifth and deciding set, which SWOSU grinded out for a 15-11 win.

SWOSU finished with a slightly better hitting percentage with a .201 compared to Northwestern's .191 hitting percentage. Lacy Mott led the Bulldogs with 22 kills while Cohalla had 19 and Samantha Kuzma added 13. Allie Hoang had a double-double with 59 assists and 23 digs and she became SWOSU's all-time leader in service aces after serving up five on the night. Sophia DeSantiago had 24 digs and nine assists while Chezney Nielsen had 19 digs and Ashley Jekel added 16.

With the win, SWOSU finishes the regular season with a record of 6-5 and they take second place in the Western Division of the Great American Conference with a 6-4 record. As the West's #2 seed in the GAC Tournament, SWOSU will have a bye into the quarterfinals, where they will await the winner of an opening round game, and host a game next Thursday evening in Weatherford.
