EDMOND, Okla. – SWOSU claimed an early lead on #13 Oklahoma Christian on Friday, but the Eagles clawed back and scored eight runs in the first three innings before outlasting the Bulldogs for an 8-5 victory in the final game of the Edmond Regional Festival.
SWOSU (0-3) is now set to return to action next weekend (Feb. 12-13) at the Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Breanna Simmons singled to lead off the game and scored later in the inning on an error by OC, giving her team the early lead before the Eagles answered with five runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning. OC added two runs in the second inning and one in the third, but SWOSU's pitching settled in and held the Eagles off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Simmons added an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning and SWOSU added another unanswered run later in the inning to cut the deficit to 8-3. Simmons and
Jessica Carmo then came through with RBI singles in the top of the seventh inning and SWOSU brought the tying run to the plate before OC struck out the side to close out the game.
Simmons and
Gracen Williamson led the way for SWOSU with three hits apiece while Williamson and
Ashtyn McAdoo both scored twice in the game.
Alisa Friesen (0-2) took the loss after allowing five runs on three hits before giving way to
Miranda Grover, who allowed three runs on eight hits with one strikeout in the final 5.1 innings.
