BETHANY, Okla. – With unexpected upsets happening in the Great American Conference Thursday night, the #15 SWOSU Lady Bulldogs basketball team was no exception, as they suffered an upset road loss at Southern Nazarene University 73-63.
SWOSU built an early 10-8 advantage midway through the first quarter and
Karly Gore (33) scored 5 of those 10 points. SWOSU built a four-point lead, 16-12, but SNU rallied and SWOSU was ahead 18-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Dawgs got rolling in the second quarter, going on a 9-3 run, but the Lady Crimson Storm came storming back. SNU scored a few buckets and SWOSU was ahead 31-29 going into halftime. SWOSU forced 12 turnovers in the first half.
Each team went stride for stride in the third quarter. The Lady Dawgs did have a slight 49-47 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
SNU opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run and
Makyra Tramble got a flagrant 2 technical foul. She made up for it, hitting a deep 3-pointer, making it 53-52.
Bad news for SWOSU as the Lady Crimson Storm went on a 10-4 run. SWOSU trailed 63-56 with 3:22 left to play in the game.
Karly Gore was fouled with two and a half minutes left to play. She nailed both free throws and the score was 63-60. SNU closed the game on a 10-3 run and SWOSU lost its second game of the season 73-63.
Tramble had a double-double, scoring 15 points and having 11 rebounds.
Bethany Franks scored 17 points and had eight rebounds.
Macy Gore (23) had six assists and SWOSU forced 24 turnovers.
"SNU came out ready to play and we made way too many mistakes," coach
Kelsi Musick said. "We forced lots of turnovers, but did not convert. We did not finish and forced too many shots in the fourth quarter.
With this loss, SWOSU falls to 11-2 on the season and they return to action, 2 pm Saturday at home against Oklahoma Baptist.
