Bulldog Win Streak Ends in Clash of Top Teams

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Great American Conference's top two teams clashed in the final week of the regular season on Tuesday, but it was the Bulldogs who suffered the 3-1 loss at the hands of Oklahoma Baptist – ending their program best nine-game winning streak in the process.

Both teams sported long win streaks going into the contest as OBU also entered with an eight-game winning streak themselves.

SWOSU found themselves in an early hole after they dropped the first set 25-12. The Bulldogs rebounded nicely, taking set two 25-20, but OBU squashed all momentum with another statement victory in set three. With their backs against the wall, the Bulldogs fought until the very end – but were unable to battle back and ultimately dropped the fourth set to lose the match.

The Bulldog attack could not get anything going against the Bison. The team combined for a hitting percentage of just .100 and were blocked 21 times at the net. For OBU, the Bison ended hitting .216 as a team.

No Bulldog player totaled double digit kills. Lacy Mott and Chezney Nielsen both finished the match with nine apiece, followed by Samantha Kuzma with eight. MacKenzie Harless was the most efficient player, finishing with a .286 hitting percentage on seven kills.

Sophia DeSantiago led the way on defense with 19 digs. Setter Allie Hoang assisted on 19 points in the match.

SWOSU (18-7, 12-3 GAC) will wrap up the regular season in rivalry fashion on Friday night when they take on Northwestern in Alva. Postseason play will follow next week as the GAC Tournament is set to begin Thursday, November 18th.
