WEATHERFORD, Okla. –
Tianna Watkins headed in SWOSU's game winning goal in the 72
nd minute to push SWOSU Soccer into first place in the Great American Conference standings with one match left to play in the regular season. The Bulldogs defeated Oklahoma Baptist 2-1 on Thursday out at the athletic complex, and now control their own destiny heading into Saturday's final regular season match.
SWOSU was outshot 16-9 on the afternoon, but it was the Dawgs who made the most of their opportunities with seven of those nine shots on goal.
Micaela Swain got the scoring going in the first half, off an assist from
Brenna McGuirk. OBU answered early in the second half with a goal of their own, before Watkins' game winner nearly 20 minutes later.
Goalkeeper
Ashley Hughes tallied four saves guarding the net.
SWOSU (11-5-1, 9-1-1 GAC) will travel to Southern Nazarene on Saturday to conclude regular season play. A win gives the Dawgs the regular season conference crown and the ability to host the Great American Conference Tournament next week.
