BETHANY, Okla. – The SWOSU Soccer offense struck twice in the second half on Saturday and went on to defeat Southern Nazarene 2-0 to claim the Great American Conference regular season championship.
If you weren't careful, you would have missed the Bulldog scores as they came just 60 seconds apart from each other.
Tied 0-0 in the 70th minute, Desiree Rodriguez broke that score line with her third goal of the season in what ended up being the game winner. Exactly a minute later, Brianna Benitez extended the lead and gave the Dawgs some cushion. Both goals came off an assist from Brenna McGuirk.
It was only a matter of time for the Bulldogs to break through on the scoreboard though. SWOSU ended with 23 total shots in the game and was constantly on the attack. Nine of those were on goal, including the two scores.
On defense, the Bulldogs completed their sixth shutout of the season.
SWOSU (12-5-1, 10-1-1 GAC) now earns the right to host the GAC Postseason Tournament in Weatherford next week. The schedule for that has not been released yet, but games will be played on Thursday and Saturday.
