HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – SWOSU Volleyball made quick work of the No. 7-seeded Southeastern Savage Storm on Thursday afternoon inside of Bank OZK Arena following a 3-0 sweep in dominant fashion.
"I'm proud of our entire team for the mindset they brought into this opening match," head coach
Josh Collins said in a post-game interview. "We were ready to play, but also composed. Aggressive, but also intelligent. Now it's time to regroup and repeat against a very talented and well coached Arkansas Tech Team."
It felt like the Bulldogs controlled the match from the first serve to the final point. The contest featured just four ties and two lead changes – all of which came very early in sets before momentum was established. Each set featured a Bulldog lead of at least 10 points.
Southeastern did not do themselves any favors in the match, committing 27 errors as a team compared to SWOSU's 13. The Savage Storm could not get anything going offensively after posting a -.035-team hitting percentage compared to SWOSU's .269 mark.
A pair of Bulldogs collected double-digit kills, led by
Chezney Nielsen with 12 and
Lacy Mott with 10. Both Nielsen and Mott added eight digs apiece. At the net,
Markenzie Benoit blocked four balls and
Samantha Kuzma blocked three.
Terez Chavez, in place of an injured GAC Setter of the Year
Allie Hoang, collected 34 assists and added 11 digs. From her libero spot,
Sophia DeSantiago had 18 digs and a service ace.
SWOSU advances to the GAC Semifinals for the third time in four seasons and will face off against No. 3-seeded Arkansas Tech. The Bulldogs faced ATU one time in the regular season and were able to sweep the Golden Suns in Weatherford. That was the first of only three conference losses Tech has had this season.
First serve for the semifinal is set for 3:30pm on Friday, November 19
