WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Women's Basketball team defeated Pitt State 79-54 Saturday afternoon to finish the GAC/MIAA Crossover a perfect 2-0 against cross-conference competition.
As they did a night prior, the Lady Bulldogs built their lead steadily throughout the game's first few quarters – leading by 10 points after the first quarter and by a score of 42-23 by halftime. SWOSU leaned on hot shooting to build that lead, after finishing 15-of-34 (44.1%) overall from the field in the first half including 7-of-12 (58.3%) from beyond the arc.
SWOSU's production on offense cooled down in the third quarter, before exploding in the fourth. Pitt State managed to outscore SWOSU 17-12 in the third quarter with hopes of keeping that momentum going, but a scorching 52.6% shooting in the fourth quarter by the home team squashed any talk of a close game going down the stretch.
Makyra Tramble led the offense with 21 points on the afternoon and chipped in eight rebounds and four assists to her stat sheet. Off of the bench, Layni Zinn played 16 strong minutes and finished with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Karly Gore and Lauren Ramey both added 12 points apiece. Bethany Franks dominated the boards and finished with 14 rebounds.
Defensively, SWOSU won the turnover battle by forcing PSU into 20 while committing only eight themselves.
The Lady Bulldogs (3-2) will rest up the next week and a half and will return to the floor against Cameron on November 24th in Lawton.
