WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The #16/24 Lady Bulldogs were victorious in their home opener on Friday night after defeating Washburn 70-54 on day one of the GAC/MIAA Crossover.
SWOSU slowly built upon their lead as they went, leading by 19 points at halftime and as many as 28 in the third quarter. Washburn made a late push in the fourth quarter that made the score seem closer than the game felt – but the Lady Dawgs handled the run and ultimately put the game out of reach with a few late buckets.
Offensively, SWOSU shot only 35.1% overall from the field but was able to finish 11-for-24 (45.8%) from beyond the arc to give them a boost. From the free throw line, the Dawgs finished a consistent 11-of-12. (91.7%)
A trio of starters notched double-digit scoring, led by Karly Gore with 19 points. Makyra Tramble finished with 18 and Lauren Ramey added 13.
The Lady Dawg defense controlled the turnover battle 17-10 on the night but was outrebounded 46-40. Bethany Franks and K. Gore both finished with eight rebounds to lead the way.
There will be no break in action after the win as SWOSU (2-2) will be right back on the court tomorrow afternoon against MIAA opponent Pittsburg State. Tipoff for the final game of the GAC/MIAA Crossover is set for 3pm.
