Bulldogs Sweep to Get Back on Track

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Volleyball finished off their trip to Arkadelphia with a resounding 3-0 win over Ouachita Baptist on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs wasted no time getting back on to the right side of the win column after last night's defeat to Henderson State. Head Coach Josh Collins' team came in to Friday's matchup determined not to return home empty handed and outplayed the Tigers to notch their fourth sweep of the season and improve their record to 10-6.

Ouachita Baptist came out with some fight early, and made it a competitive first set. SWOSU was unable to establish more than a three-point lead until the very end, as the Tigers seemed to battle back after every Bulldog run. The usual suspects stepped up help the Dawgs across the line however. Middle Hitter Markenzie Benoit provided six kills and Outside Hitter Samantha Kuzma added five of her own to give SWOSU set one.

Despite a great spirit in the first set, the wind seemed to come out of the sails of the Ouachita Baptist team in the next two frames. In the second the Tigers held a 3-2 lead, but it would be all Bulldogs from that point forward. Multiple four and three point scoring runs gave SWOSU a 20-10 lead and eventually the set.

The third set might be the easiest the Bulldogs play all season. Everything seemed to work in the favor of SWOSU and they capitalized on a litany of mistakes from the Tigers to win the set easily and put the match to bed.

Every aspect of the Bulldog attack was firing on all cylinders on Friday afternoon. The team only committed six attacking errors, all of them coming in the first two sets, which is their second lowest total on the season. The Dawgs also put up a team hitting percentage of .409 which is their best mark of the season.

Speaking of efficiency, Markenzie Benoit was absolutely incredible in this match. She slammed home 12 kills on only 14 attempts with zero errors committed. That was good for a .857 attacking percentage while leading the team in kills. The SWOSU record for attacking percentage in a single match (min. 20 attempts) is .682 by Emily Walter in 2008. Benoit was six attempts short of chasing SWOSU history.

The Bulldogs were very active at the net as well. Benoit was once again involved here, contributing a block solo and four assists alongside Taryn Galt who had four assists of her own. SWOSU out-blocked Ouachita seven to one.

SWOSU's service game gave the Tigers fits all afternoon. Allie Hoang continued to be a problem at the service line for opponents, racking up three aces. The Bulldogs had seven aces on the day while not allowing Ouachita a single service ace in the game.

SWOSU Volleyball (10-6, 5-2 GAC) has another three game home stand coming up, as the Bulldogs will host Harding on Friday and Arkansas Tech on Saturday of next week in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
