Hey guys! My name is Jacob Cope and I am a senior here at SWOSU! SWOSU can only be described as my home. I have loved every second of my four years here. My favorite part is being a part of SWOSU Athletics Media Team and being able to capture some incredible moments of all the different sports here on campus. I first got into videography after I got a go-pro the summer after my senior year of high school. My friends and I would go to the lake and make what we thought at the time were the best videos on the planet. We were sadly mistaken. I was then given a shot at filming a wedding for a friend that I shot with my parents camera and a lens I had to borrow. After I made that video I booked a few more weddings thus Cope Films was born. About two years ago I walked into Sports Information Director Doug Self's office with an interest in doing videos for SWOSU. Luckily he gave me a shot and for that I am still so grateful or I am not sure what I would be doing today. What a ride it has been since then! I have had the opportunity to capture some historic moments for SWOSU athletics and be a part of growing the SWOSU brand and hopefully bringing a bit more pride to Dawg Nation!
This video was a full team effort. I approached a friend of mine, Brad Hill, about mixing together songs for me to make a hype video for the GAC Tournament. We began the discussion over a month out and the planning began. Doug and I began writing a script for Coach Thurman to read that would set the scene of what the year had brought and get – not only the fans hyped – but the girls as well. The video took a while to develop with putting the music and the audio together but the end result was amazing! My favorite shot in this video is close to the end of
Makyra Tramble in practice that transitions into her doing the same move in a game while the audio of Coach Thurman talks about how you have prepared for this moment. Little did I know this would be the last video I was able to make for basketball this season.
This is still one of my favorite videos to date. I think at times athletes can be seen as just people on the field and I wanted to bring an element that showed how much being a Bulldog meant to the seniors on our football team and I wanted to bring out a community aspect. SWOSU is more than just the campus but also the town of Weatherford so I tried to incorporate that into this as well. The final element is the Fight Song. If you have attended a SWOSU sporting event you have heard the fight song. I fully believe it is something that everyone on campus should know and I wanted to bring a cinematic feel to it. Having students and alumni send me videos of them signing the fight song added a totally different feel than other videos and a perfect hype for the home opener football game!
If you were following the SWOSU Women's Basketball team on their run to the 2019 National Championship game then this is probably a video you have seen. This one
blew up! It was crazy to watch! I wish I could take credit for this idea but that goes to Coach Musick. She approached me about doing something special for this senior class and I thought the idea was perfect. I actually edited this entire video in one night. We were late getting all of the filming done which meant the video needed to be ready the next day. I sat down at my computer at about 8:00 p.m. and finished at 2:00 in the morning. Well worth the six hours it took for the way responded to a video and actually won me an award for Best of Show at OCPRA.
SWOSU has given me so much and this video was a great way to showcase the 2019 year. It was also my first full year with SWOSU Athletics and it was quite a ride!
This video is a bit different from the rest due to the fact that it has very minimal editing. Dawgs Uncut is a concept that we came up with to highlight a more inside look at our sports teams to put whoever watched right into the heart of the action or right in the team meetings. This one was my favorite due to the fact that Mullins hit a walk off to win this game and everyone rushed the field!
This video obviously doesn't need much of a caption. Just read the title and you can tell why it was important. What an incredible experience!
This was a cinematic recap of the home opener! An earlier video built this up with Bulldog Pride and this was a perfect way to recap the win! Gameday atmosphere can be a blast to capture and give a different perspective than just game footage.
This one was a blast to be a part of! The trip to Northwestern always brings an intense atmosphere and this one was no different. Northwestern was handing out free t-shirts the place was packed and the student section wasn't holding anything back.. Little did I know that our men would win in a wild fashion. A fun fact is that the first shot you see is actually taken by
Doug Self on his iphone! I was prepared on the sideline for our bench for Damion to take the shot on a drive in or straight away three pointer. He had been hot all night and I thought he would take the shot. He passes it off to Cam in the corner where I was blocked by the team. My shot is still in it to give a different perspective but the stable shot is actually from an iphone at the scorer's table by Doug!
Away trips are honestly my favorite! Something about being in a totally new place and the angles and shots that a new place offers is always fun. Even though this was an exhibition game it was definitely a big game to go against a D-1 program. The game was intense and ended with us on top meaning that I got right to work on a recap to kick off basketball season.
This video was the first cinematic recap I did and quickly got me hooked on doing more. Watching a game live is great but there is something about being able to relive those moments in a movie type of video. There is always such a build up to football season and that first game brings just as much of an energy to us the media staff as it does the fans and players.
