WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After dropping the first two games of their Great American Conference series with No. 19-ranked Southern Arkansas, the SWOSU Baseball team picked up a victory in the series finale on Saturday and avoided the series sweep.
SWOSU (10-7, 7-5 GAC) returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Oklahoma Baptist before heading to Arkansas next weekend for a three-game series at Ouachita.
Game 1: #19 SAU 12, SWOSU 7
The Bulldogs put up 10 runs and seven hits in the series opener, but allowed seven runs in the top of the eighth inning, allowing SAU to come-from-behind to win the first game. SAU finished with 12 runs on 16 hits while SWOSU got multiple hits from
Miguel Soto and
Zach Baxley.
Vance Ferraro (1-1) suffered the loss after entering in relief of
Jackson Dietel and
Ryan Hildner in the eighth inning.
Game 2: #19 SAU 13, SWOSU 2
Saturday's opener saw the Bulldogs allow 13 runs on 16 hits while being limited to six hits offensively and stranding seven runners on base.
Alex Bedard and
Zach Baxley had two hits apiece to lead the way while
Drew White and
Jackson Dietel each had one.
Carter Hogan (1-1) allowed six runs on 12 hits in 6.0 innings of action and suffered his first defeat of the season.
Game 3: SWOSU 8, #19 SAU 2
Drew White and
Jackson Dietel homered in the series finale, helping the Bulldogs take a game from SAU. Baxley was also 2-for-3 with one run scored, leading the Dawgs to seven hits in the game. SWOSU scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth, which proved to be the difference.
Eric Estrada (3-1) picked up the victory with eight strikeouts and five hits allowed over 6.0 innings of action.
