Bulldog Softball Swept by Tournament Hosts

EDMOND, Okla. – SWOSU Softball opened the 2020 season on Friday in Edmond, where they suffered defeats against Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian, the two host teams of the UCO/OC Tournament.

SWOSU will conclude the tournament on Saturday with games against Colorado Mines (10:00 am) and Pittsburg State (4:00 pm), with both games being played on Oklahoma Christian's campus.

#7 Central Oklahoma 3, SWOSU 2

A sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning was the difference as UCO scored the final three runs of the game to down the Bulldogs. SWOSU had eight hits in the game, the biggest a two-run home run from Hannah Morris in the top of the third inning that gave the Dawgs an early lead.

UCO answered with back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the fourth inning before scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. SWOSU limited the Bronchos to just three hits and forced UCO to leave five runners on base.

Amanda Moreno and Allyson Gafford had two hits apiece for SWOSU while Moreno and Morris scored the team's two runs. Alisa Friesen allowed just three hits in 6.0 innings of work, but she did issue five walks and hit one batter in addition to recording one strikeout.

Oklahoma Christian 9, SWOSU 1 (5 inn.)

A first-inning grand slam by OC put the Eagles in control and they scored all nine of their runs in the first two innings as they finished off the day with a run-rule victory over the Bulldogs. The Eagles finished with seven hits in the game while SWOSU managed four hits against OC.

Amanda Moreno, Jewell Lee, Ashtyn McAdoo and Dustie Pence had hits for SWOSU, with Pence coming through with an RBI single in the top of the fifth to get the Dawgs on the scoreboard. Brianna Cryer made her first career start in the circle and took the defeat after allowing five runs – four earned – while recording one out in the first.
