SWOSU Softball Splits Opening Home Series

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bulldog Softball split a doubleheader with Arkansas-Monticello for the second straight day on Saturday and the four-game Great American Conference series ends in a 2-2 stalemate.

SWOSU (4-12, 3-5 GAC) returns to action next weekend at Southern Arkansas.

SWOSU 16, Arkansas-Monticello 15 (9 inn.)

The Bulldogs pounded out 16 runs on 20 hits and overcame a 7-0 deficit early in the opener, which ended with a walkoff single from Breanna Simmons in the bottom of the ninth inning. Simmons had the best day for SWOSU, going 6-for-7 at the plate with four RBI and one run scored while Amanda Moreno and Jewell Lee each hit home runs in the game.

Miranda Grover (1-4) got the win for SWOSU after holding UAM scoreless on two hits over the final 3.1 innings of action.

Arkansas-Monticello 7, SWOSU 6

SWOSU scored first in the second game, but trailed 7-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, which was when Simmons hit a three-run home run to highlight a four-run inning. The Bulldogs added a solo home run from Moreno in the bottom of the seventh, but that still left them one run shy of again forcing extra innings.

Keanni Barron led SWOSU by going 3-for-3 at the plate while Moreno, Simmons and Tara Hibbler each had two hits in the game.
