Baseball Bounces Back for Saturday Sweep

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball defeated Arkansas-Monticello twice on Saturday to overcome a series-opening loss on Friday to win their third straight Great American Conference series 2-1.

The Bulldogs (9-4, 6-3 GAC) return to action on Wednesday evening in Edmond against Central Oklahoma before hosting Southern Arkansas next weekend for a three-game conference series.

SWOSU 19, Arkansas-Monticello 7

The Bulldogs scored nine runs in the seventh inning and tacked on five in the ninth to run away with the opener on Saturday. Jackson Dietel homered and went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI while Miguel Soto had five hits and Alex Bedard had four from the top of the lineup. Drew White went 2-for-5 with five RBI and Zach Baxley was 2-for-6 as the top five hitters in the lineup combined for 16 of the Dawgs 19 hits in the game.

Ryan Hildner (1-0) entered the game in the second inning in relief of Carter Hogan and he limited UAM the rest of the way, allowing five runs on 10 hits while striking out five over 7.1 innings of work.

SWOSU 4, Arkansas-Monticello 2

The second game was more on the low-scoring side as Eric Estrada and Chase Hamilton held UAM to two runs on seven hits while SWOSU was opportunistic and scored four runs on four hits. The Bulldogs got a sac fly from Dietel in the third before Soto drew a bases-loaded walk and Taylan Mullins-Ohm scored on a wild pitch in the fourth. The final run came on an RBI single from Soto in the sixth, which scored Kemper Bednar second.

Estrada (2-1) struck out four while allowing two runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings before Hamilton (2) shut the door with two strikeouts as he recorded four outs while facing five batters to get the save.
