WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to force extra innings and plated an unearned run in the top of the 10th to defeat SWOSU 9-8 on Saturday at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
The Bulldogs overcame an early 4-1 deficit by scoring in four straight innings, the last with two runs in the bottom of the seventh that made it an 8-5 ball game. The Savage Storm plated three runs on four hits in the ninth to tie the game and took advantage of a fielding error by SWOSU to score the eventual game-winning run in the 10th.
Alex Bedard led the Dawgs at the plate, going 3-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI while
Drew White,
Jackson Dietel and
Zach Baxley had two hits apiece from the middle of the lineup.
Taylan Mullins-Ohm was 1-for-4, but made the most of his one hit, a two-run home run in the fourth that tied the game at 4-4.
Four different pitchers were used by SWOSU, with
Carter Hogan allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five over the first 5.0 innings before giving way to
Colton Hunter.
Haden Branch then entered and struck out five in three innings of work before giving way to
Chase Hamilton (0-1) for the 10th frame.
By virtue of their doubleheader sweep on Friday, SWOSU wins the series 2-1, but fall to 7-3 (4-2 GAC) on the year with the loss. Next up for the Bulldogs is a neutral site, non-conference game against Emporia State on Tuesday afternoon in Enid, Oklahoma.
