Softball Opens 0-2 at Midwestern State Invitational

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – SWOSU Softball went 0-2 on Friday in the first day of the Midwestern State Invitational, which drops the Bulldogs to 0-6 on the season.

SWOSU returns to action on Saturday with two more games in Wichita Falls. They are slated to face Regis at 5:00 pm before closing out the tournament against host Midwestern State at 7:00 pm.

Nebraska-Kearney 9, SWOSU 8

Each team scored all their runs in three consecutive innings, but it was the UNK Lopers who scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to defeat SWOSU in the first game on Friday. The Bulldogs had the lead in the third, fourth and fifth innings – the final on a grand slam from Amanda Moreno that made it 8-7 in the fifth, but a one-out two-run single plated the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the sixth for UNK.

Moreno led the way for SWOSU, going 2-for-5 at the plate with six RBI while Keanni Barron and Ashtyn McAdoo had two hits apiece for the Dawgs. Alisa Friesen got the start and allowed seven runs on six hits over 4.1 innings before Miranda Grover (0-1) closed out the game and allowed two runs on two hits with four walks.

Cameron 10, SWOSU 0 (5 inn.)

The night cap saw Cameron score five runs in the bottom of the first and they never looked back, adding three runs in the third and two in the fourth to secure the win by run-rule. SWOSU got three hits in the game, one apiece from Moreno, Hannah Morris and Allyson Gafford.

Brianna Cryer (0-3) started in the circle but lasted just three batters before being pulled in favor of Friesen, who allowed eight hits and seven runs over the final 4.0 innings.
